Athkhelia Namghar is a religious shrine to assamese peoples. It's story goes, as rumour, back to the ahom king Gadadhar Singha. When he fled from assassination of "Lora Roja" he crossed this "Athkhelia" area and a "bhokat" showed the way to "Naga Pahar" and help him escaping from the soldiers of "Lora Roja". As story goes it is said that when Gadadhar Singha crossed the way in the vary day at vary morning he torn the spider net but in order to saves him the " bhokat" goes that way and seemed he torn the spider nets.
After becoming the ahom swargadeo Gadadhar Singh he allow the bhokat to "prasong"(worshipping) there. But it is unable decide where did actually give the place to prasong . Actually there are two Athkhelia Namghar . One is Purani (Old)Athkhelia Namghar and Natun (New)Athkhelia Namghar. But nowadays people visit the New Athkhelia Namghar.
